A few prog-rock gems, properly transcribed Dec 20, 2007
By Al I bought this mainly for the transcribtions of "Long Distance Runaround", "Roundabout" and "Mood for a Day" (all 3 from the classic Fragile album). "Clap" and "I've Seen All Good People" are OK additions, although not exactly favourites of mine. The rest of the songs in the book represent Yes' more commercial & pop-orientated side, which holds no interest for me whatsoever.
The quality of the transcriptions is very good. Many keyboard parts are arranged for guitar, and the tab suggestions are on the whole much better than average. Most of the transcriptions are by some dude named Kenn Chipken, whose work I can only commend.
I would've given this 5 stars if the selection of songs had been more interesting.

A Couple Of Accurate Transcriptions Don't Erase The Travesty Of This Book Nov 15, 2009

Who in God's name chose the songs for this anthology? Ridiculously bad song selection. First of all they included two solo guitar pieces by Steve Howe, Clap and Mood For A Day. Okay, those are great guitar pieces but I thought this was supposed to be a "Yes" songbook, not a Steve Howe solo songbook. Second, why, why, why were the songs Money and Montreux's Theme chosen for this anthology??? Could they not have picked two more obscure Yes songs? The must have put effort into actually finding the two most obscure Yes songs they could, as almost ANY other song from any other Yes album would have been better.
Most of these anthology book series contain about 15 or more songs, and had they substituted four songs for Clap, Mood For A Day, Money, and Montreux's Theme, plus added five more for a 15 song anthology this would have been close to a five star book. My suggestion for the additional nine songs:
1. Starship Trooper suite (Life Seeker, Disillusion, Wurm) 2. Yours Is No Disgrace 3. And You And I suite (Chord Of Life, Eclipse, The Preacher The Teacher, The Apocalypse) 4. Siberian Khatru 5. Sound Chaser 6. Parallels 7. Turn Of The Century 8. Wonderous Stories 9. On The Silent Wings Of Freedom
Then add in the six decent songs in the anthology:
1. I've Seen All Good People suite (Your Move, All Good People) 2. Long Distance Runaround 3. Roundabout 4. Owner Of A Lonely Heart (with the opening chords transcribed incorrectly I might add!) 5. Hold On 6. Tempus Fugit
Now that would have been a real Yes Anthology! The kind of book any Yes playing guitar fan would have loved, but alas it's not to be. So we can only hope for more transcription books in the vein of the wonderful Fragile book released a couple of years ago. It amazes me that as influential and amazing as Steve Howe is there is so little transcribed for guitar by the man and his band. Yes is a classic band and they deserve better than this supposed anthology. A big disappointment.

I bought this book primarily for transcriptions of the "Clap" and "Mood for a Day". I've been working my way through both tunes and the transcriptions seem fairly accurate. My biggest complaint is the song selection and number of transcriptions. The book simply doesn't cover enough of their vast history. This book could easily have been 250-300 pages with many more songs to play and choose from. Very hard to believe that "Starship Trooper" was not included.
