YOUR GUIDE TO GETTING PUBLISHED Feb 17, 2006
By carl womack This book, is a valuable tool in aiding anyone who has ever sought to get their songs published. It has loads of contact names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, websites, and other contact information for music publishers in the usa and around the world. And whatever you do, don't give up!!! And never take the word of a select few people as to your song's worth. There is a term in sales called "regional sales". In other words, what some people in certain parts of the world may think stinks, other people might go nuts over it!!! I cannot count on my fingers how many times I've heard of perfectly good musicians give up on writing, simply because they listened to their "friends" opinions, or got bad reviews in their home town. what anyone must realize when it comes to being an artist (music or otherwise) is that you are going to make someone jealous. And some will show it out front, and others will hide it behind a sincere looking, sometimes teary eyes appearance. And it is these people who do all they can to see you not succeed, sometimes even long time friends or family. I know, it has happened to me.
and I've seen people who, when they played their music in my area were literally booed. but kind of funny when they went to other parts of the country, they got rave reviews...interesting isn't it?
You might have a rap song and try it out in alabama and get run out of town, or a country song in boston and have them throw rocks at you. Then that same rap artist COULD go to Los Angeles and within minutes have 500,000 people begging for their autograph, and the country songwriter could go to Texas and have record producers lined up out the door...Get the picture?
this guide is published by folks who've been in the business for many many many years. They have a superb reputation, and so do most of the advertisers in the guide. And if (and it rarely happens) they find a dishonest music publisher, they boot them out of the next guide. I've been published and P-A-I-D for it, and YOU can do the same. Get inspired, quit listening to that negative voice inside you saying "you'll never make it, no one will like that stuff, It stinks", and GO FOR IT!!! You will never know if you have what it takes until you try. YOU WILL NEVER EVER KNOW UNTIL YOU TRY. AND IT DONT MATTER IF IT'S RAP ROCK GOSPEL COUNTRY RAGGAE OR A NEW MUSIC THAT DONT FIT INTO ANY ONE CATEGORY, YOU HAVE TO TRY!!!. It don't matter if you are dirt poor, or wealthier than your dog's cat, PUT IT OUT!!!!! It don't matter if you're a man or woman, a boy or girl, it don't matter your religion or where you come from, ANYONE can have their music published. SO GET AT IT AND GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!

If US is not your market - stay off this book Nov 29, 2006
By Anders Wahl
"Anders"
Ok so I received this book today. Boy what disappointment for me. This adress list is mainly towards american offices. This should have been stated in the AD somewhere. I am aiming for the european and asian market currently and beleived that in its 29th annual edition they would have been building adresses for other that US offices. There are some non-US adresses there, but just by an example; EMI ain't listed at all with any European adress (New York) and Air Chrysalis doesn't exist (well the latter may be gone anyways, I don't know). Deston Songs is non existent. And so the story goes. If your market is mainly US this book might be great if its up to date (I don't know if it is.) If your market currently is non-US; stay away from this book. There are other sources out there for that that is better. Online sources like [...] and such. When that is said, the book also includes some articles about remixes, contract, lawyers and more that I found to be a good read.

By Irene I thought this book was good. I it gives you information, but I expected it to have even more. But it is still good, don't get me wrong.
