very helpful addition Nov 17, 2009
By Diatonic This book is a great way to expand your playing. I have played in numerous church bands but there isn't a band at the church that I currently attend. I needed songs that I could play solo for things like offeratory music and this selection of songs fit perfectly. I would say beginner to intermediate level. Standard and Tab notation. I play these on nylon strings but I suppose any guitar would still work. Fun to play.

Easy read tab's Jul 04, 2010
By jimjybe Found a video on "you tube" of "Blessed Assurance" and the guitarist mentioned it was from this book. The price was a good value and the Tab's are easy to read. There are a lot of single and double notes in the melody that keep it interesting. Chords shown for struming and provide finger placement for notes. This is a good book for a novice to intermediate.

Nice Arrangements Mar 03, 2008
By Jane I have one of Hal's Christmas books and I LOVE it. I've been looking for one with a few well known church songs for a long time. I'm quite happy with some of the selections in this book. I think I would like to have seen a list of all 15 songs (more than half are songs I either don't know or like) before purchasing. But several songs are ones I absolutely adore! As always, Hal's arrangements are simply lovely!
Guitar book Feb 04, 2012
By Potato This is indeed a nice book for beginners to learn some of the great hymns. Using a technique called tableture, you learn to pick individual notes even if you cannot read music. While it is on a beginner level, the book itself gives no instruction on how it works. I had to find someone who could show me. Once past that hurdle, I am having a lot of fun with it. Very nice book for the price and a great seller to buy from.

good book Jan 20, 2011
By jesus is the way This is a good book with some nice hymns, but the arrangements are simple. I don't consider myself an expert but I would say these arrangements are for beginners. I had to make some additions here and there to make the melodies sound fuller.
So if you're a beginner don't hesitate to buy this book and learn the melodies as they are. And if you're an experienced guitarists you can use these arrangements as a basis on which you can build nice pieces.
