2Lacking key elements, e.g. incomplete, inaccurate  Oct 22, 2007
Although some of the material transcribed in "Riff by Riff" is useful, I found it to be lacking some key elements. First of all, it seems safe to assume that anyone interested in purchasing this book would do so for the purpose of accurately learning Butler's basslines, which can contain some rather tricky parts. I was frustrated to find that most of the transcriptions stop at the most complicated and difficult points in the songs, and are left for the reader/listener to work out for themselves (particularly since these parts were the entire reason I bought the book in the first place). Considering that the book is not even a complete anthology of the band's music, it would be nice if, at the very least, the material included was complete. In addition, some of the songs are transcribed in the wrong key. For instance, "Snowblind" is moved a complete minor third from C# to E. Again, it seems like anyone that would go to the troble of purchasing this book instead of taking their chances with some online tabs would want accuracy. That made me wonder if anyone even went to the trouble of editing this book before it went to print. Ultimately, this could have been a good book if anyone had gone to the trouble of actually finishing it.

5Good book  Jul 01, 2007
This book includes not only the riffs from the most popular Black Sabbath songs but also lots of explanations about Geezer Butler's playing style and about the songs themselves. I found it very helpful.
