Good reference manual Feb 17, 2010 I purchased this book as a textbook to be used in a class I am taking at Berklee College of Music. It is a very good resource book as well as a valuable textbook for this course.
Well laid out Training Manual..VERY helpful Dec 17, 2009 Logic Studio 8 is one of those great programs that is next to impossible to "pick up" without some kind of instruction. I tried some of the online video tutorials and the issue I've come up with is the lack of structure and the video quality wasn't always so good...hard to learn something if you can't see it well on the screen...and you can't take them offline and make notes and highlight important ideas.
I picked up this Training Series to learn LogicStudio. Chapter by chapter, it builds as you proceed through each chapter so you're not going randomly through Logic and hoping to learn something. Each chapter gives an estimate time needed to complete it and ends with review questions with answers provided. The author, David Nahmani, has a website with a forum to ask questions and it quite responsive to questions and inquiries about the software and the book. I was able to do the first chapter in about 2 hours...and that was not being familiar with the functions of LogicStudio whatsoever. so I felt up to speed with the basics pretty quickly.
If you're brand new to Logic Studio as I am, this is THE manual to get. David writes for the layperson with some techie jargon thrown in there and necessarily so. The format is easy to follow with each chapter and the included DVD contains lesson pieces necessary...so don't lose it!
The good thing is, once you complete the training, you can take the Apple Certification Test and be certified to train others in how to use Logic Studio.

Good only for beginners Dec 08, 2009 If you have any experience with Logic, get the beyond the basics book. This book is made for people that don't know how to make music, or just have never used a music production program before.

Disappointed at This Book's Complexity Jul 12, 2009 I bought this book because of the rave reviews. Purpose: to produce voice overs in-the-clear and over pre-recorded music. jingles or sound effects. In this book, it is extremely hard to find the basics if one just wants to lay down several voice tracks, compress, EQ and edit out breaths - instead of becoming Natalie Merchant or Sting with full-blown music productions.
This is definitely not a "For Dummies" book and can be a bit convoluted for a voice over artist - especially if one is trying to just learn the basic abilities of Apple Logic Express.
